Climate change is already having a detectable impact on birds across Europe, say a group of scientists publishing their findings to create the world’s first indicator of the climate change impacts on wildlife at a continental scale.Posted by Administrator
Published in the journal PloS ONE, scientists have shown a strong link between observed population change of individual species and the projected range change, associated with climate change, among a number of widespread and common European birds, including the goldfinch and the lesser spotted woodpecker.
By pulling all the data together, the team has compiled an indicator showing how climate change is affecting wildlife across Europe. The European Union has adopted the indicator as an official measure of the impacts of climate change on the continent’s wildlife; the first indicator of its kind.

The developers and architects of Woodbrook could not be more chuffed. On 19 February, this ‘visionary and ground-breaking’ housing development as announced as the winner of the RSPB/RTPI’s Planning Award in the Urban Areas and Built Developments section. The award, given out by Europe’s largest conservation charity and the UK’s leading planning association, recognises the excellent work by the building sector in constructing buildings which lead the way in environmentally friendly design.Christopher Carvill of the Carvill Group, the developers of the project said, “At Carvill we work very hard to develop innovative, sustainable housing married with high quality design. To be recognized for this work is very rewarding and we aim to further develop our ideas in the future to maintain and progress our thinking. I would like to thank RTPI and RSPB for awarding us this accolade and look forward to developing our relationship with them in the future.”
