If you want a view of grassroots change, pull on your Googlemap shoes, and follow Rhema Church London into street-level Croydon.

Welcome to the gap. This is the place we’re all told to mind. It falls between the slick square mile and the circle line of the M25. The mood here is eardrum tight, spitting with drum ‘n’ bass and the grime of traffic. Tarmac heat chatters away into a sky heavy with high-rise. If you look at the buildings, two specific ones are shaping the future of the gap, and of the nation beyond. Lunar House, the HQ of the UK Borders Agency and the wicket-gate of immigration, is one. Less visible, but just as tangible, is Fairfield Halls, the concert venue where Rhema Church London gathers. On the streets here, the strange fruit of fear, isolation and violence has grown to define the flavour of life. But the RCL family is bringing a fresh fruit: a kind of love-music, expressing hope, community and triumph, realised in their daily lives.

Glasgow’s Gallery of Modern Art has hit the headlines with an exhibition encouraging visitors who feel that they have been excluded from the Bible to write their way back into it with pens provided. Unfortunately, while the comments may have been honest many have been far from respectful and organisers have been forced to remove some of the pages and put the Bible in a glass case in response.“It’s a poor reflection on the public opinion of Christianity within our society,” commented Eddie Arthur, Executive Director of Wycliffe Bible Translators. “The Bible message was written to demonstrate God's love to the whole world regardless of ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation and no one should feel excluded. Part of the inclusivity of the Bible message is that it tells us that everyone, without exception, needs to be reconciled to God through Jesus Christ. This is a profoundly counter-cultural message and
isn't comfortable for anyone.

As the recession bites, instinct tells us to hold tight to every penny we’ve got, and dream of the stuff we can buy when it’s over. But Jesus challenged us not to worry about money, but to think first of the needs of others. Posted by Administrator
Simplify is a call to discipleship; to examine the spiritual hold money has on our lives.

Some iced coffee drinks being sold by high street coffee shop chains contain up to a quarter of a woman’s recommended daily calories, a cancer charity has warned. World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) has found one iced coffee drink sold on the high street that contains 561 calories. The estimated daily calorie requirement for an average woman is 2,000 calories. Others contain over 450 calories and most of them have over 200 calories, which is about 10 per cent of a typical woman’s daily calorie needs.
WCRF is warning that regularly consuming high calorie drinks like these could increase cancer risk.

RSPB release another 26 red kites on the first anniversary of historic reintroductionThe RSPB, Europe’s largest wildlife conservation charity, has released the second batch of red kites in Northern Ireland as part of their reintroduction of this beautiful bird of prey. The release brings the local population of these rare birds to just under 50 and marks the first anniversary of the reintroduction project.
Speaking from the release site in Co Down, Director Aidan Lonergan said, “It has been a fantastic year for these globally threatened birds. They have settled well in their new home and really thrived – much of Northern Ireland is a perfect habitat for red kites however, without human intervention, they would never have arrived here. This was the first time the RSPB reintroduced a wild bird species here so we were watching them closely and it could not have gone any better.”
Minister for the Environment, Edwin Poots, was present at the release of the birds. Further releases captured the interest of many and were attended by Environment Committee members, MLAs and local politicians as well as PSNI, local landowners and the media.

RSPB guided walks reveal the surprises and secrets of Belvoir ParkPosted by Administrator
A 5th century village, Norman ruins, towering sequoias, a thriving colony of red squirrels. Can this really be Belvoir Park? Now is your chance to discover all that’s exotic, beautiful and natural about Belvoir Park, by joining one of the RSPB guided walks taking place over four Sundays in July and August.
Each one-hour trek provides a fascinating introduction to the Park’s heritage, habitats and wildlife. Originally settled by the Kinnel Breda people whose legacy lives on in local place names, Belvoir has a rich history as a Celtic, then Norman settlement, a country estate and now a beautiful urban forest.
