Oxfam TRAILTREKKER Ireland is one of the world’s greatest team challenges, teams of four completing a cross-border route of 100km in under 30 hours. TrailTrekker begins at Kilbroney Park, Rostrevor, Co Down with teams traversing sections of the Mourne Mountains, the Ring of Gullion and the Cooley Peninsula, finishing in Carlingford Co. Louth.

We currently have a great need for volunteer DJs and MCs to provide the entertainment for this event and I would be delighted if you were able to help us out at one of our 8 checkpoints.

The event itself takes place between the afternoon of Friday 25th September and the night of Sunday 27th September 2009.

Local Artist Brian Writes

Hi Friends

I was around the age of 8 or 9 when my family bought a portable tape recorder.  That’s when I began to make my own shows. I’d record little bits of the TV dialogue and put wee commentary’s on them. I’d interview my Dad or Mom for my documentary’s and also try to record them when they weren’t looking. The craic was ninety!  I made little mix tapes of music and I sang wee songs and created my own little albums.  As I got older I was allowed to stay up late. There was a show called The Old grey Whistle Test. A weird kinda bloke with a beard sat and explained who was coming on next with a husky dry rasp. The whispering presenter was strange and a little scary to me as a child and hard to get a sound on my tape recorder.  The music he introduced was good though. . Later they replaced the whispering guy and got someone else.

Touring England a few years later the promoter driving the van pulled into his friends house for afternoon Tiffin in the rural countryside of England. We had scones with butter, strawberry jam and cream and refills of warm tea in china cups on the veranda out the back whilst kids played on the trampoline. The bloke who lived there was very nice. Very friendly and very hospitable. He spoke in a deep gentle voice that soothed you whilst he told stories of interviewing all four Beatles after they were no longer Beatles and shared tales of meeting rock stars in such a down to earth manner that his humility was captivating. The most unassuming gentle giant who was interesting, engaging and ever so friendly: not at all scary like when he was on the Old Grey Whistle Test.

Our local community radio station 102.4 Shine FM are to hold a competition for the best primary school choir in the Banbridge District.

"This will be a wonderful opportunity for children to compete against each other in a friendly manner, build their confidence and promote their school." said Dougie Barr, the Shine FM Chairman. "We believe this will help promote Shine FM as it will be a voice for the local community on air."

The Station are also looking for local sponsors and a venue for the event. So if you think that you would like to become a sponsor or could host the event please contact the station.

The exact dates for the event will be published shortly and the Grand Final's date/time will be set to suit the school terms and exams in 2010.

We are also hoping to have a Children’s Story programme competition. This consists of children writing their own story and the winner/runner up will get an opportunity to come into the studio and read their story out on air.

Ancestors MCC Poker Run

Ancestors MCC are a small MCC, but have been around for a long time, infact this year is our 20th Anniversary. Our members come from all over the Northern Ireland (Coleraine, Antrim, Kells, Larne, Glenarm, Belfast, Banbridge, Ballynahinch & Killeagh) and on all sorts of bikes. We meet at the start of each month to chat about the club, rallies, ride-outs and basically have a laugh at each others expense. We all try and get to as many rallies, rock nights and runs as possible.

We hold a rally every year in August, its always a good laugh and everyone has a great time, we also have our annual Christmas Toy Run at the start of December where all proceeds go to charity and hopefully a couple of Rock Nights thrown in throughout the year.

The future isn’t another country: its another planet. Jon Lambert docks with the Audacious City Church crew to see what church could look like.

You’ve seen the footage. A lone man steps from the ladder of his lunar module. He utters those immortal words and plants the stars & stripes in the moon-dust. To Neil Armstrong, the Apollo landing was his life’s ambition. It was a chance in a million, and when the call came he was prepared. He simply stepped out and made his mark on history. This summer finds Audacious City Church taking their own small step, and to these guys making history is child’s play.

Burglars using social networks to target people

Everyone dreads coming home after a well earned holiday, but your low mood could turn into a complete nightmare if you come home to find you've been burgled.

The Digital Criminal Report highlights that social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook are increasingly being used by burglars to identify potential targets.

They are using the sites to make friends with people, find out details about their homes and information on when they're going away. They then check potential target properties using sites like Google Street View.
